On Vector-valued Hardy Martingales and a Generalized Jensen’s Inequality

We establish a generalized Jensen’s inequality for analytic vector-valued functions on TN using a monotonicity property of vector-valued Hardy martingales. We then discuss how this result extends to functions on a compact abelian group G, which are analytic with respect to an order on the dual group. We also give a generalization of Helson and Lowdenslager’s version of Jensen’s inequality to ce...

On the character space of Banach vector-valued function algebras

‎Given a compact space $X$ and a commutative Banach algebra‎ ‎$A$‎, ‎the character spaces of $A$-valued function algebras on $X$ are‎ ‎investigated‎. ‎The class of natural $A$-valued function algebras‎, ‎those whose characters can be described by means of characters of $A$ and‎ ‎point evaluation homomorphisms‎, ‎is introduced and studied‎. ‎For an‎ ‎admissible Banach $A$-valued function algebra...

On the character space of vector-valued Lipschitz algebras

We show that the character space of the vector-valued Lipschitz algebra $Lip^{alpha}(X, E)$ of order $alpha$ is homeomorphic to the cartesian product $Xtimes M_E$ in the product topology, where $X$ is a compact metric space and $E$ is a unital commutative Banach algebra. We also characterize the form of each character on $Lip^{alpha}(X, E)$. By appealing to the injective tensor product, we the...

A large-deviation inequality for vector-valued martingales

Let X = (X0, . . . , Xn) be a discrete-time martingale taking values in any real Euclidean space such that X0 = 0 and for all n, ‖Xn − Xn−1‖ ≤ 1. We prove the large deviation bound Pr [‖Xn‖ ≥ a] < 2e1−(a−1) 2/2n. This upper bound is within a constant factor, e2, of the AzumaHoeffding Inequality for real-valued martingales. This improves an earlier result of O. Kallenberg and R. Sztencel (1992)....

Rubio de Francia’s Littlewood-Paley inequality for operator-valued functions

We prove Rubio de Francia’s Littlewood-Paley inequality for arbitrary disjoint intervals in the noncommutative setting, i.e. for functions with values in noncommutative L-spaces. As applications, we get sufficient conditions in terms of q-variation for the boundedness of Schur multipliers on Schatten classes.
